Meet the Teachers
All of our teachers must pass a rigorous selection process before completing seventy hours of one-on-one training. Each teacher specialises in either grammar or practical instruction, and each student will have two teachers; one in each field. Because we are committed to offering the best possible instruction, you are welcome to select your personal instructors based on the biographies provided below.
When you have made your choice, please contact us to let us know. You will then receive an agenda (which will contain a planned schedule for your lessons) from your teachers. If you wish, you can also initiate contact with your preferred teachers. You can do this in your own language, as FairPlay can translate your e-mails for the teachers, as well as translate their replies to you. If you prefer, FairPlay can select teachers for you.
Once you have received your agenda and are happy with it, you can reserve your language course and teachers. You then have two weeks to confirm and place a final order. If we don't receive a final order for the teachers and course within that period, the agenda will be cleared for other people to make reservations.
Teacher Profiles
Martha Ballesteros
Martha was born in Calca, and has lived in Cusco for 20 years, where she graduated with a degree in Social Work. She has two children, a 13-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son. In her free time, Martha loves to go camping in the mountains with her children, to whom she dedicates all of her free time. Martha has been with FairPlay since its inception and claims that it has changed her life. It allows her to support her kids economically as well as to be involved in their daily lives.
Eliana Astete
A mother of a 13-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl, Eliana has been with FairPlay since its inception. Though she was raised in Cusco, Eliana spent two years in Lima before returning to her home town. Before she joined us, she worked as a saleswoman, selling goods in bulk to stores. Her hobbies include watching movies, listening to music, and dancing while she cooks for her two children. Eliana is fiercely proud of her culture and language and loves working at FairPlay, where she not only gets to educate the students about Peruvian culture but simultaneously learns about their own diverse and interesting backgrounds.
Nelly Uhaman
A Cusco native who has been with FairPlay from the very beginning, Nelly is also the mother of five children. She previously worked as an elementary school teacher at a private school, where her wages were far lower than they are now, which meant that she was unable to fully support her family. In her spare time, Nelly enjoys weaving, doing arts and crafts with her children, and even making jewelry from recycled objects.
Camucha Loayza
Camucha was also born and raised in Cusco. Her daughter is currently 17 years old, and her son is nine. Before joining FairPlay in 2006, she worked at her mother’s hair salon and as an assistant in pre-schools. She dedicates most of her free time to her children, but also enjoys reading a variety of books, including historical writings and works by Peruvian authors. For Camucha, FairPlay provides motivation to work hard to support her family and also a chance to learn about other cultures.
Maritza Anco Cruz
Maritza is a Cusco native who is currently raising her young son. Prior to FairPlay, she studied tourism and worked on a train route travelling between Puno and Cusco. This situation was not ideal, however, because she was often away from her son, leaving him with her parents. Since becoming a teacher in January 2009, she has developed strong bonds with everyone in the FairPlay family, and now has the support of a group of women who are all in similar situations. All of her free time is dedicated to her son.
Marianela Copamejía
Marianela was born in Puno but grew up in Cusco. She has two young daughters and is began teaching at FairPlay in January 2009. Before joining our FairPlay family, she stayed at home to take care of her young children. She began training to become a physical education teacher (partly due to her passion for volleyball), but she found FairPlay during her job search and changed paths. Here, she feels that she has found people with whom she has much in common.
Anatolia Latorre
Anatolia is a Cusco native and has two children—a 16-year-old son and a seven year-old-daughter. She has been a teacher at FairPlay since January 2009 and before that, she worked at a restaurant. Her hobbies include spending time with her children, doing things such as going to the park, teaching them how to cook and wash clothes, and helping them with homework. She also enjoys knitting.
